Methadone Detox
Methadone is a widely used prescription drug that was initially developed to aid in severe pain but is now most popular in substituting for an opiate or narcotic addiction. This modality of treatment falls under Harm Reduction, a philosophy of certain treatment providers that subscribes to the theory that being addicted to methadone is much more manageable due to long half life of the drug and that designated clinics are in charge of managing all that goes into running a clinic. The truth is for some these clinics really do work and patients are able to regain a life that is much better for everyone involved than it was prior to the methadone.
Eventually the stigma of the Methadone clinics or the side effects start to take their toll and patients want off the methadone. Patients report problems with weight gain or sexual dysfunction from lack of libido. Others state that they feel tired all the time and report a lack of energy. Patients start showing the classic signs of anhedonia, essentially they no longer enjoy the things that in the past have brought joy and fulfillment. The methadone takes the fun out of life. It starts to feel like they have liquid handcuffs on.
To detox off methadone is to accomplish the impossible in most cases, unless help is found to do it. Clinics try and titrate patients down upon request but also have no problem letting the patient go back up in dose if requested. Detoxing methadone is in a class of misery of its own. There is no opioid known to man that produces such a long half life and it is this half life that leads to a long painful drawn out protracted detox that brings with it some of the worst anxiety an addict has ever known. Sleepless weeks in bed with hot flashes and cold sweats and days spent on or next to the toilet, both vomiting and diarrhea. Kicking Methadone is probably the worst experience an addict has ever had in regards getting off drugs and it is the fear of what was just described that will lead many addicts as far away from a treatment center as they can get.
We have made it our business to develop to the most efficient way possible to detox our patients off methadone. No one understands the horrors of methadone detox as described above better than Pini, our Founder. Because of his own terrifying experience he sought to find an answer to the problem, and with researchers in Spain they soon began to develop the first ever Ibogaine Protocol for Methadone Dependent people. We are happy to now provide this opportunity to our patients.
